The damage increase is not a new instance of damage, it is an increase.
Note that the damage increase only applies to activated spells, and not to applied effects.
During your turn, a single instance of damage cannot deal more than 2.
However, if you manage to inflict 2 damage multiple times, you can definitely deal more than 2 damage to an opponent during the same turn.
